But how many Italian-Americans can claim that fast food pioneer Harlan Sanders, otherwise known as Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame, was a frequent guest? Seattle’s Dorene Centioli-McTigue, co-founder of Pagliacci Pizza, can.
Colonel Sanders and Gill Centioli, Dorene’s father, were close friends and when the colonel visited Seattle, he’d stay at the Centioli home. Often a growling stomach would get him up in the middle of the night to raid the family fridge. “I remember he was quite an eater,” said Centioli-McTigue.
