We’ve all seen the tents, tarps and RVs sprouting up on Seattle streets as the city’s homeless population continues to grow. People who experience homelessness face a host of chronic health issues, but today they are facing yet another deadly adversary: COVID-19.
My interview with Michael Light, an alumnus of the University of Washington’s School of Social Work, is the cover story of the School’s 2020 Impact Report. Light is one of three members of a palliative care team based at Harborview Medical Center where he delivers end-of-life care to homeless individuals. The team is the first of its kind in the country and one of only a handful worldwide.
Read more about Light’s work and the other ways that faculty and alumni from the School of Social Work are discovering ways to promote health equity. Additional segments I wrote for the School’s 2020 Impact Report include its Rising Stars in Health Equity Research, Research in Action, gazette and financial sections.
